MALEVICH AT THE STEDELIJK...

This was a real highlight for me in that both the Museum had it hands down over the Van Gogh design and also provided a rare opportunity to see so many works displayed together of this amazing artist! Malevich created his first abstract-geometric paintings in what was then Czarist Russia. His art theories around Suprematism were repudiated by the regime. By 1935 when he died in Leningrad his reputation as one of the founders of abstract art was established.
